I have been working in China for 7 and a half years out of which 3 are in Nanning's GAC center. My other academic experience in China comes from EF English First where I have worked as a Director of Studies before, although I have also worked in the field of education prior to my arrival in China. A College Diploma from Hospitality Management and two degrees, one from Economy and one from Social Sciences have fit me right in the GAC program as well as provided me with an opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences with our students greatly. Our students have a clear goal and are eager to acquire the knowledge they need for abroad studies, and so they are well focused through out my lessons which allows better progress overall. I am pleased with both, the students and the GAC program as well as I am hopeful to stay on with the company for years to come.

I’m Neil, aged 52, from England.  I’m left handed and addicted to coffee and chocolate but otherwise normal! I graduated in history from London University in 1977.  I have subsequently added qualifications in management and TESOL. I worked in manufGACuring industry before starting my own business.  I have taught in Nanning since 2004 and now consider it my home. It is no longer enough for Chinese students merely to study abroad.  Nowadays they also have to succeed when they get there.  The GAC course gives you a unique advantage in that respect.  We prepare students to study a range of subjects in English in a western way.  Within that context I teach reading and writing and business studies and love it.

My name is Raj and I am from England. I joined the GAC centre in Nanning in August 2007 but I have been teaching in China since September 2003. Before coming to China, I was working as a Development Manager within the engineering industry in England. I have worked in various cities in China including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Yiwu. Of all the cities I have worked in, I like Nanning the best. Nanning is clean, green and the people are very friendly and kind. I also like teaching at the GAC centre. Here I teach General English, Business English, Mathematics and Science. With a major in engineering, I like science and I enjoy teaching science in English. Students come to the GAC centre not only to learn from text books but also to learn about the western culture from the foreign teachers working here. I enjoy talking to students about the western culture and we often have discussions on this topic inside and outside the classroom. Education is gained not only from books but also from experience and from teachers with experience. The GAC centre is a bridge between school and university. We teach students about the life in a foreign country, especially student life in a university. Life as a student in a foreign university can be very rewarding and enjoyable. But it can also be difficult at times. It is best to be prepared for the hard times. Good times are a blessing.

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada. Graduated from Air Services Training School in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1975. Graduated from Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta, Canada in 1986 with a diploma in Business Administration: Appraisal and Assessment. Worked as a Radio Operator and Communicator with Canadian Government for 5 years and worked as a Property Assessor with provincial and local governments for 22 years. My time as a Property Assessor saw the implementation and development of computers as an essential tool in the Appraisal and Assessment Fields. As a result, I have a gained significant knowledge which hopefully I can pass on to my students. As a recent arrival to GAC Nanning, I am still “learning the ropes” and still getting to know my students. My first observations are quite positive. GAC Nanning has a knowledgable and dedicated staff who are keenly interested in providing the best education possible for the schools students. The computer courses are well designed, following a logical progression from beginning to end, providing the students with a solid foundation upon which to advance their computer knowledge.  The students themselves are smart, hardworking and eager to learn, and as members of the IT Generation they already have significant computer abilities. These are the kind of students who will “keep me on my toes”. I look forward to working with them in the years ahead.

Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), BE, from the University of Adelaide (Australia), in 1970. A joint engineering and science degree, specialising in Electronic Engineering. Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng). 18 years in research and development, working in equipment design and project management, for marine applications. Another 18 years specialising in underwater acoustics for commercial and government clients. During this period 10 years spent in formally mentoring junior Engineers, providing support, guidance and encouragement. Designed and presented a specialised internal course on underwater acoustics. Over the past two semesters, support to junior & senior students and Staff, Foreign Studies Department, Guangxi University for Nationalities, in written English. I see this course as a bridge between China and the West and between secondary and tertiary education. Although students are well educated in China in English, their communication skills with native English speakers and the various accents, is not good.  Western education style is not so heavily exam oriented, is more flexible, placing emphasis on students, as adults, accepting responsibility. This course provides a smooth transition to the students in both of these areas.
